The AFTFL held its 17th Annual 8-Man Ineligible Linemen National Championships this week at two different sites, Mercer County Park in Princeton, NJ and Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY. A 5-ON-5 Texas Stadium Regional was also held at Baseball Heaven. In the 8-Man "A" Division final, the ISP Bulls(Long Island, NY) defeated the Devils(Westchester, NY) 18-12. Bulls QB Brian Calhoun was selected Tournament MVP! In the 8-Man "B" Division Final, the LI Spartans(Long Island, NY) defeated Laney's Cafe(Albany, NY) 14-13. Jim Crawbuck of the LI Spartans won Tournament MVP. In the 8-Man "C" Division final, The Ruck(Albany, NY) defeated the Rondout Titans(Kingston, NY) 37-7. Justin Kastner was selected MVP! In the 5-ON-5 "A" Division Regional final, the Thorobreds(Long Island, NY) defeated Bad Boyz(Long Island, NY) 6-0 for the Free Bid to Texas Stadium in February. Pat Brady was selected Tournament MVP. In the 5-ON-5 "B" Division Regional final, the Suffolk Raiders(Long Island) defeated the Predators(Queens, NY) 19-13. Joe Alaimo was selected Tournament MVP!12/2/07 @Fordham University, Bronx
The TZFFL Fall Season Super Bowls where held today at Fordham University. In the "C" Division, the Bengals(Bronx) defeated the Warriors(Bronx) 13-12. QB Effi threw two TD strikes, one hitting WR Primetime and the other WR Mark. In the "B" Division final, Rampage(Westchester) defeated the Eastchester Blue Devils(Westchester) 20-7 for back-to-back titles! QB Rashad Lewis connected WR's Rasul Salahuddin once and WR Peter Clark twice to lead Rampage to the "B" Division title. In the "A" Division final, it appeared Franchise(Westchester) would finally shake that Devils-curse, as they led 14-0 at the half. But back-up Devils QB Thomas Newkirk brought the 9-Time Champions back to life in the 2nd half , hitting Tyrone Seawright, Eddie Vertucci, and JC with TD passes as the Devils(Westchester) rallied for a 18-14 comeback win!
6/17/07 @Fordham University, BronxThe Spring Super Bowls were held today at Fordham University. In the "C" Division final, Rampage defeated NFS Steelers 19-14 on the last play of the game! QB Rashad Lewis threw 3 TD strikes, one each to Chris Lambert, Dave Berndini, and Mike Sheeky!
4th Time's a charm for the N. Rockland Hurricanes has they captured their 1st League Championship, defeating the Eastchester Blue Devils 10-3 in the "B" Division Final! QB Donnie Alfonso hit Tim Sanders for a TD while PK Lou DeSimone hit a 30 yard FG to round out the scoring.
The Devils continued their dominance of the "A" Division defeating Team Franchise 19-7 for the Spring "A" Championship! Thomas Newkirk hit Ken Seger for the first TD on a reverse. QB Seger then hit WR Baiz for their 2nd TD. RB Newkirk then scampered 14 yards for a late TD to finish out the scoring.

Murphy Stadium echoed with the memories of its most famous alum, Vince Lombardi, and looked like Lambeau as the snow whirled around. In the "A" Division final, the CS Devils(Westchester) exacted revenge for their Spring defeat, shutting out the arch-rival Rockland Panthers 21-0. Devils' QB Ken Seger hit WR Thomas Newkirk for 2 TD strikes! In the "B" Division final, Bailey's Seminoles(Rockland) defeated All Madden(Westchester) 18-12. Bailey's QB Chris Annesi hit WR Brian Girardi for 2 TD's and connected on another with WR Dennis Lozado to round out the scoring. In the "C" Division Championship, the Spartans(Westchester) edged out Cobra Kai 13-12. An extra point pass from QB Dion Sankar to WR Pierre Rodriguez proved to be the difference! Sankar and Rodriguez also hooked up for the Spartans 2TD's.

On a perfect day for football, the best 6 teams in the Hudson Valley took the Pro-Turf field at Fordham's Murphy Stadium. The presence of ex-Fordham coach & player Vince Lombardi permeated the campus as the "C" Division teams took the field. When the last second had clicked off the clock, the Outlaws(Westchester) defeated the Falcons(Bronx) 14-12! Outlaws QB Paul Bufano hit WR Mike Kehrer for both scores while K Steve Acosta's two kicked extra points proved to be the difference. Falcons QB John Coumoutsos ran for 1 TD on a reverse option from Dan Carr and hit Fred Wande for the other Falcon TD.
In the "B" Division final, Bailey's Chaos(Rockland) defeated the Rockland Hurricanes(Rockland) 14-10 in a game that provided some of the best 4th quarter Super Bowl action in a long time. Bailey's QB Mike Drehwing hit Charles "Truck" Ransom for both Chaos TD's! Hurricanes' QB Donnie Alfonso hit Vito DeNoia for a TD while brother Phil DeNoia hit a FG to round out the scoring.
The "A" Division final featured two legendary Flag Football teams, the Devils and the Rockland Panthers. Defense ruled the day, however, as the Rockland Panthers defeated the Devils 7-6. Panthers WR Brad Topchik caught a dump-off from QB Brian Blanke and then kicked the extra point to decide the game. Devils QB Ken Seger hit Rick Ryan for the Devils late score, but they failed as they gamely went for two points with under 2 minutes left.

Within view of the boats sailing down the picturesqe Hudson, the TZFFL held its' 2004 Spring Super Bowls on the astroturf field at Shea Stadium on the grounds of West Point! Inthe "A" Division final, the Devils(Westchester) continued their Championship streak, defeating Countrywide Dawg Pound(Westchester) 31-12! Devils QB Ben Ervin got the ball rolling by hitting WR Terrance Williams for the 1st TD. Ervin then connected with WR Issac Burke for a 2nd passing TD. CB David Schuart then intercepted a Phil Coccioletti pass and ran it back 22 yards before tossing back to Thomas Newkirk who ran it in for the Defensive TD. Thomas Newkirk hit Steve Biaz to close out the scoring for the Devils. The Dawg Pounds' RB Jerimiah Johnson ran one TD in from the 5 yard line and caught a TD pass from Aaron James for the Countrywide score.
The "B" Division final pitted 2 Westchester teams, C&S Construction vs. the Rampage, with C&S coming out on top 26-7. LB Rich Nannariello got C&S on the board with a safety. Rampage answered with WR Paul Anello's TD catch and RoccoRiley's PAT. The C&S offensive juggarnaut finally got rolling in the 2nd half with QB Ken Seger hitting Rich Nannariello, James Alston, and Tyrone Searight for a TD each. CB Tom Cottrell ran back an interception for another C&S TD!
The "C" Division final was the most competitve game of the day, with the Rockland Tar Heels(Rockland) defeating the Outlawz(Westchester) 17-12! Tar Heels QB Donnie Alfonso pulled off a QB sneak for one TD and hit Phil DeSimone for another TD. K Louis DeSimone hit 2 PAT's and a Field Goal to complete the Tar Heels scoring. Outlawz TD Paul Bufano hit Mike Sterzkowski for the Outlawz 1st TD and Matt Kendel ran in the 2nd.

On a beautiful July Sunday, the TZFFL held it's 2003 SPRING SUPER BOWLS on the historic grounds of West Point! In the "A" Division final, the Devils(Westchester) won their 2nd consecutive Spring title by defeating the Mamaroneck Bulldogs 15-13 behind a a 35 yard INT TD by Thomas Newkirk and a 70 yard run by Newkirk. Chris Green's safety provided the 2 pt difference!
In the "C" Division final, the Westchester Ironmen defeated the Outlawz 15-12. QB Jacko Leonard ran 4 yards for one TD, threw a 7 yard pass to Mike Ferranti for another TD, and passed for a 2 pt conversion! Matt Kendel made a 38 yard run for 1 TD while Paul Bufano hit Andy Ciano for another TD on a double reverse for the Outlawz scoring!
At an earlier date, due to a scheduling conflict, JP Doyles defeated Finn McCool's 17-16 on overtime for the "B" Division title!

The action was as hot as the weather this past weekend at the 2003 SPRING NATIONALS at Virginia Beach, VA! Teams from 18 different states competed in 4 Divisions for the right to compete in FLAGBOWL XIII next February at Texas Stadium in Dallas!
In the 9-MAN Ineligible Flag Division final, the Titans(NY) defeated the Brothers AC(Wash DC) 28-20! The Titans Mike Miller was selected Tournament MVP. 8 of the 9-Man teams that made it to Sunday are among the 10 Top 9-Man teams in the sport! In the 8-Man Eligible Flag PRO Division, Howard University(Wash DC) shocked the 5-time VA Beach Champion DC Dolphins(Wash DC) 19-7 in the Championship game! Howard's QB Harry McFadden was selected Tournament MVP of the division. In the 8-Man Ineligible Flag division, the Regulators(VA) defeated the Baltimore Raiders(MD) 21-0 in the final! Regulators' Jovelle Tillman was selected Tournament MVP! In the 8-Man Eligible Flag REC Division, One Nation(Wash DC) defeated the Pirates(VA) 28-0 for the Championship with QB George Bo Starling taking MVP honors.

The best teams in flag football from 28 different states faced-off in legendary Texas Stadium, home of the 5-Time World Champions Dallas Cowboys, for the right to be called "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" this weekend at "FLAGBOWL XII"! The teams represented the winners of the 9 "FLAGBOWL" Regionals held across the country during November, December and January. Six different styles of play were featured at FLAGBOWL XII. A total of 210 teams participated in FLAGBOWL XII, the National Championships of the AFTFL!

In the 9-Man Ineligible semi-finals, the Cannoneers(NY-Northest Regional winner)) defeated the Alabama Untouchables(AL-Southeast Regional winner) 10-6 and the Tailgators(CT-New England Regional winner) defeated Austin Nemesis(TX-Southwest Regional winner) 14-0. In the hard fought Championship Game, the Tailgators defeated the Cannoneers 34-21. Tailgators QB Rich Lester(MVP) threw 4 TD passes to Chris Ortiz(2), Diallo Freeman(1), and Joe Edmonds(1). CB Stosh Konesky ran back a late INT for the coup de grace TD. The Tailgators are the first team from Connecticut ever to win a National Title!
In the 8-Man Eligible Flag semi-finals, Group(MS-Southwest Regional winners) defeated Top Authority(MD-Mid-Atlantic Region winners) 20-6 while Pfuzion(GA-Southeast Regional winners) shut out Belle Vegas/Game Face(MO-Midwest Regional winners) 13-0. In the final. Pfuzion defeated Group 21-0 for the National Title. Pfuzion QB Damien Pierre threw 3 TD passes to WR Corey Dupree and RB Sean Foxx rushed for another TD to round the scoring. DT JC Sterling recorded 5 sacks in the final earning him MVP honors.
In the 8-Man Ineligible "2-Miss" semi-finals Grainey's Fighting Irish(NY-New England Regional winners) defeated the Dallas Ruff Ryders(TX-Southeast Regional winners) 19-0 while the Westerloo AC Rebels(VA-Mid Atlantic Regional winners) defeated the Brentwood Falcons(NY-Northeast Regional winners) 19-16! In the final, Grainey's Fighting Irish defeated Westerloo AC Rebels 16-6. Grainey's QB Mike Maychack threw two TD's....one each to Greg Mox and Craig Kimbrough. K Gerry Angelini added a FG to Grainey's scoring. QB Mike Maychack was selected MVP!
In the 8-Man Screen Flag Division semi-finals, Legends(GA-Southeast Regional winners) defeated the Headhunters(TX-Southwest Regional winners) 18-13 while Group(MS defeated Southern University-Baton Rouge(LA-NIRSA Collegiate National Champions) 31-13. In the final, Legends defeated Group 14-7 for the National Screen title! Legends' Troy Legg ran for one TD and hit Darren Hutchinson for another. With key plays on both sides of the ball, Darren Hutchinson was selected MVP!
In the 8-Man Ineligible Full Rush Division semi-finals, Darcon Diamondbacks(NY-Northeast Regionals) defeated the Dallas Hot Boyz(TX-Southwest Regional winners) 13-0 while the Devils(NY-Mid-Atlantic Regional winners) defeated Ultimate Power. In the final the Devils defeated their nemesis Darcon 10-9 for the National title!
QB Mike Summers was selected MVP!
On Saturday, the 8 Regional winners of the 4-ON-4 division faced on the Astro turf of Texas Stadium. In Sunday's final, Gametime(TX defeated the Pro Bowlers 19-12 for the National title! Gametime's QB Mark Moore threw 3 TD passes.....one each to Billy Cole, Brian Henderson, and Victor Hollis! For leading his team to 4 straight undefeated Texas Stadium victories, Mark Moore was selected MVP!

The AFTFL's "NORTHEAST REGIONALS" 9-Man and 4-Man Divisions took the field today in Princeton, NJ! The 8-Man Ineligible Divisions will take place in Princeton on Dec. 21/22.
In what could be the best collection of 9-Man Ineligible teams at one site ever, the Cannoneers(Albany, NY) defeated the Cavaliers(Bronx, NY) 14-0! Cannoneer QB Kevin DeGuire was selected Tournament MVP. 18 of the best 9-Man teams from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Connecticut competed for the Northeast title! The Cannoneers will represent the Northeast Region at the AFTFL's "FLAG BOWL" at Texas Stadium in February.
In the 4-ON-4 division final, House Of Pain(Queens, NY) defeated Atli Spartans(Long Island, NY) 33-19 and will also represent the Northeast Region at the AFTFL's FLAG BOWL!
11/24/02 @West Point, NY
The TZFFL's SUPER BOWL XIII took place today on the beautiful astro-turf of West Point. Both the semi-finals and the Super Bowls were held today at West Point. NNT defeated Finn McCools 18-12 while, in the 2nd game, the Devils defeated the Gamblers 26-25 in O.T.! This set up a great battle for the "A" Division Championship in which NNT defeated the Devils 13-6 for the title! NNT QB Tony "BC" Carpenito hit WR Pete Cariello for one TD while Jeremiah "JJ Krush" Johnson rushed for NNT's other score. In the "B" Division semi-finals,
McFadden's Panthers defeated the Vipers 32-14 while the Mt. Vernon Rampage beat the Tarrytown Dolphins 13-12. Then, in the "B" Division title game, McFadden's Panthers defeated the Mt. Vernon Rampage 34-14! QB Deano Passariello passed for 3 TD's to Cody "Prime Time" Green(1) and David Thompson(2). Passariello and Green also rushed for 1 TD each to round the Panthers scoring!

The AFTFL followed up flag football's largest Spring 2002 tournament with Summer 2002's largest flag football tournament! 68 teams from throughout the Northeast US took the Gridiron on Long Island, NY in four different divisions. The 13th Annual AFTFL SUMMER NATIONALS celebrated one of the longest running Flag Football tournaments in the sport's history! Back in 1990, it was the first flag football tournament ever held in the Northeast U.S.
In the 9-Man Ineligible division, the Cavaliers(NY) defeated the NJ Seminoles(NJ) 7-3! Cavs Dirk Gorman was selected MVP. In the first ever AFTFL 8-Man Ineligible "Full Rush"("A" Division) final, the Devils defeated the Franklin Square Falcons 7-6 in OT! Jeremiah Johnson of the Devils was selected MVP. The Devils are the first Tappan Zee Flag Football League team to win a "National" title!
In the "B" Division final, the Nassau Enforcers defeated Goodfella's 17-7! Rich Ferriggi of the Enforcers was selected MVP! In the "C" Division final, House Of Pain defeated TRS Raiders 22-14. HOP's Tom Pugh and Robert Manfredonia shared MVP honours!

6/30/02 @Virginia Beach, VA
The AFTFL held it's 2002 SPRING NATIONALS this weekend in sunny Virginia Beach, VA! A record 64 teams participated in 5 different divisions at 4 different sites. Teams from the DC/MD/N. VA area won 4 out of the 5 divisions, showing why many people feel the Metro DC area features the best teams in the nation!
The 9-Man Ineligible PRO Division featured possibly the toughest group of 9-Man teams ever assembled in one tournament. In addition to the AFTFL National Champions West Side(GA), the bracket included Titans(NY), Brothers AC(DC), Metro Chiefs(MD), Soul Patrol(GA), Long Island Bucs(NY), Magic City(AL), Baltimore Packers(MD), Tailgators(CT), Dawgs(VA), Scarab Jewelers(NY), Gipper's(CT), Ruff Ryders(VA), and the returning 2001 Champions, the Philly Seminoles(PA). In the final, the returning Champion Philly Seminoles shut out the Metro Chiefs(DC) 7-0. The Seminoles also shut out the Brothers AC 9-0 in the semi-final 9-0. That's a "Champions" defense! Noles' Darrius Mason was selected MVP!
In the 8-Man Eligilbe PRO Division, the DC Dolphins(DC) came looking for a "three-peat" and they found it, defeating arch-nemesis the Cutters(MD) 20-7 in the final for the 8-Man PRO title! Eriq Lewis was selected MVP. The DC Dolphins have 8 consecutive AFTFL events!
In the 8-Man Ineligible final, the DC Bad Boyz/Bulldogs(N. VA) defeated the Devils(NY) 20-13 for their 1st AFTFL title. Bad Boyz Vinny Johnson was selected MVP.
In the 8-Man Eligible REC Division final, All Met(DC) defeated Fredricksburg Jay-M(VA) 36-0 for their first-ever AFTFL title! Phil Peters of All Met was selected MVP!
In the 4-ON-4 Division final, the Henchmen(VA) shut-out the Underdogs(VA) 28-0 for their third VA Beach title.
6/23/02 @West Point, NY
The TZFFL held it's Spring 2002 Super Bowls this past weekend at West Point on the astro-turf under a blistering 90-degree sun. In the "A" Division final, the Devils shocked E.T.S. 20-18 on a last second 15 yard TD pass from Aaron James to Bill Pappas! K Dave Schwartzberg's 2 extra point kicks proved to be the winning difference! QB James earlier connected with Ed Vertucci on a 40 yard pass for a TD. Devils' RB Tom Newkirk rushed for a 9-yard TD. E.T.S. QB Ken Seger passed for 2 TD's...one to Pat Bates and another to Andy Rogovic. RB Tyrone Searight ran for a 10 yard TD to close out the scoring.
In the "B" Division final, Broadway Pizza edged out the Andover Seminoles 25-22 for the "B" Division final! QB Phil Coccioletti threw 4 TD passes.....2 to WR Scott Benoit, 1 to WR Vince MacDonald, and 1 to WR Chris Womack. Seminoles' QB Rob Bonamolo hit WR's Dave Lancellotti and Brian Girardi for a TD each. Girardi also ran back a 65 yard punt for TD!

The TZFFL held it's FALL 2001 Super Bowls at Hofstra Stadium, the astro-turf stadium of the NCAA Div. 1 Hofstra Flying Dutchmen! In the "A" Division final,
the Gamblers defeated the Maulers 21-14. Gamblers QB Mike Mooney threw
3 TD passes, 2 to Chris Corrado and 1 to Alex Amoriello. For the Maulers,
QB Karl Seemer launched two TD passes, one to Paul Payne and another to
Rich Maddaferi.In the "B" Division final, the Judlau Raging Bulls(Westchester) defeated the
Andover Seminoles(Rockland) 21-18 in a see-saw battle that came down to the extra points! Bulls' QB Art Basso threw 2 TD's and ran for another. Paul Neuman had two TD receptions for the Bulls while Kicker Ralph Zingaro
was 3 for 3 on extra pt. kicks for the difference! Seminole QB Rob Bonamolo
threw 2 TD passes to Doug Burt and Brian Girardi. Girardi also a rushing TD
forthe Seminoles in one of the greatest Super Bowl finals ever!

15 9-Man Ineligible teams from around New England met at Colt Park in Hartford this weekend at the AFTFL's "New England Regionals". In the semi-finals, the Tailgators(New Haven, CT) defeated Matt's Place(Worchester, MA)
and the Ciccone Outlaws(Providence, RI) defeated the Knights(Hartford, CT).

Over 40 teams attended the AFTFL's "SOUTHEAST REGIONALS" this past weekend! The Hurricanes(Montgomery, AL) won the 9-Man Ineligible Flag
Division, 95 Octane(Atlanta, GA) won the 8-Man Eligible Flag Division, and

The AFTFL's 11th Annual "NORTHEAST REGIONALS" took place this weekend with 58 teams from 10 different states competing in 5 different Divisions. The 9-Man Ineligible Flag Division featured the best teams currently playing the sport in the world! They included: Cutters/MD(winningest team in flag football history), Titans/NY(winner of the AFTFL SUMMER NATIONALS),
NJ Seminoles(considered by most to be the best team in NJ), Metro Chiefs
(DC Metro Champions), Kid KO/NJ(former Nat'l Champion), Cavaliers(former
National Champions), and many other top teams. In the semi-finals, Metro Chiefs defeated the Cavaliers 6-0 and the Titans defeated NJ Seminoles
26-7. In the 9-Man final, the Titans defeated Metro Chiefs 19-6 with Titans Kicker Bob Schindler receiving MVP honours!This year's "8-Man Ineligible Flag"- "A" Division was actually for the 2001 "National Title" because it won't be offered in Atlanta at FLAG BOWL XI in February. The style is mainly played from New England to Virginia and this year's teams included the Fall 2001 Champs from all those leagues. In the final,
Full Force(NY) defeated Cyclones II 20-7 with MVP Honours split between
QB Bob McGee and WR Rob Bartlett!In the "8-Man Ineligible Flag"- "B" Division, the Long Island Rage(NY) defeated
E.I.S.(NJ) 7-6 with John Judge of the LI Rage taking MVP honors.
In the 8-Man Eligible Flag "A" Division, the DC Dolphins(DC) put another Cup in the Trophy case by winning the final 26-12 over the Warriors AC(MD). Brett Alexander of the Dolphins was selected MVPIn the 8-Man Eligible Flag "B" Division, Country Paint(CT) defeated Nardo's(PA) 20-2 with Country Paints' Corey Newsome taking the MVP!
