AFTFL Commissioner George Higgins announced here today that the AFTFL's "FLAGBOWL X", it's 10th Annual National Championships, will be played here in Atlanta on January 20/21, 2001! But the big announcement came later in the day when the Georgia Dome was reserved for the Finals of each "A" Division of each style! "A" & "B" Divisions will be offered for "9-MAN INELIGIBLE", 8-MAN INELIGIBLE, 8-MAN ELIGIBLE, 7-MAN SCREEN FLAG and CO-ED SCREEN FLAG. Higgins said, "this being our 10TH Anniversary 'FLAGBOWL', we felt the Georgia Dome would be a 1st-class setting to show not only how the AFTFL has arrived, but the sport of Flag Football as well!" He added, "through the years the main purpose of the AFTFL has been to provide memories. Like our games at Giants Stadium and R.F.K., the finals at the Georgia Dome will provide the biggest thrill yet for our players! In addition, with our large base of 9-MAN/8-MAN/7-MAN leagues and teams throughout the south, we are assured of huge participation and experienced football officials!" The AFTFL will still hold the 4-ON-4/5-ON-5 portion of "FLAGBOWL X" in Fort Lauderdale on February 10/11, 2001 with cash prizes of $5000! "It's just that with no 'contact' leagues locally in Florida, it's hard get a good local base of 9-MAN/8-MAN teams & experienced 'contact' officials. That won't be a problem in Atlanta where our Southeast Regionals regularily attract 50-60 9-MAN/8-MAN teams!" Higgins added. The AFTFL would like to thank the Atlanta Convention Bureau, The Georgia Dome, and AFTFL Southeast Regional Director David Mack for all assistance in making the move to Atlanta happen! The Atlanta Polo Club will also provide a beautiful setting for all the Sat./Sun. preliminary games. And if you've ever been to Atlanta, there's no need to talk about the nightlife!
